The Boston Bruins have been busy this offseason, adding several new faces as they continue reshaping their roster. Notable players expected to be part of their opening night lineup include Tanner Jeannot, Viktor Arvidsson, Sean Kuraly, Michael Eyssimont, and Jordan Harris. Alongside these headline signings, the Bruins have also picked up a few under-the-radar depth players who could prove to be valuable contributors.
One such addition is forward Alex Steeves, who stands out among the depth signings.
Steeves spent the past four seasons within the Toronto Maple Leafs organization but struggled to secure a regular role in the NHL due to Toronto’s deep forward group. In 14 NHL appearances across four seasons, Steeves registered three points, 29 hits, and a minus-1 rating, including one goal and one assist in seven games last season.
Although his NHL opportunities have been limited, Steeves has excelled in the AHL. Over 247 career games in the league, he has tallied 105 goals and 111 assists for 216 points. He’s coming off a standout 2024–25 season with the Toronto Marlies, setting new personal bests with 36 goals and 62 points in just 59 games.
With Boston seeking more depth scoring, giving a chance to a player like Steeves—who has thrived in the AHL—makes sense. The 25-year-old has shown steady progress each year and could emerge as a sleeper candidate to make the NHL roster. Even if he starts in the AHL, his presence would be a strong asset for the Providence Bruins.
All in all, this is a low-risk signing that could turn into a smart move for Boston. It’ll be interesting to watch whether Steeves can carve out a meaningful role next season.
