The former Liverpool captain is expected to sign a two-year deal running through to 2027, marking his return to Premier League football after a two-year absence.
Henderson will undergo a medical and finalize the paperwork over the weekend, although the official announcement is likely to be delayed until next week out of respect for his former teammate Diogo Jota, who tragically died in a car accident last week.
Brentford moved for Henderson—who had attracted interest from clubs in both England and Europe—after captain Christian Norgaard’s departure to Arsenal. The 35-year-old is seen as a natural replacement in terms of leadership and experience.
With 431 Premier League appearances under his belt from his time at Liverpool and Sunderland, Henderson’s experience is seen as a key asset during a transitional summer for the Bees, who have also parted ways with long-time head coach Thomas Frank.
Star forwards Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo, who combined for 39 Premier League goals last season, are also rumored to be on their way out, with Manchester United reportedly having two bids turned down for Mbeumo.
Internationally capped 84 times by England, Henderson has been recalled by new manager Thomas Tuchel and will aim to secure a place in the squad for the 2026 World Cup.
He will be Brentford’s fourth summer signing, following Antoni Milambo, Michael Kayode, and Caoimhin Kelleher.
