The Toronto Maple Leafs have remained active this offseason, and one trade idea being floated would see them add depth to their bottom-six forward group.
Heavy.com suggested a potential trade that would bring him from the Vancouver Canucks to Toronto in exchange for Calle Jarnkrok, a 2026 third-round pick, and a 2027 fifth-round pick.
In this proposal, Toronto would acquire Joshua—a versatile forward who can play both center and left wing—while also shedding Jarnkrok’s contract. However, the Leafs would need to give up two mid-round draft picks as part of the deal.
Joshua, 29, is entering the second year of a four-year, $13 million contract. Standing at 6-foot-3, he brings size and a physical edge to the lineup. Last season, he posted 7 goals and 7 assists in 57 games. His best NHL campaign came two seasons ago when he scored 18 goals and recorded 32 points.
Jarnkrok, who has one year remaining on his four-year, $8.4 million contract, would head to Vancouver in this scenario. A middle-six winger with more offensive upside than Joshua, Jarnkrok was limited to just 19 games last season due to injuries, but still recorded 7 points. His career-high is 20 goals and 39 points.
Canucks Reportedly Shopping Joshua
Although Vancouver has been relatively quiet this offseason, insider Rick Dhaliwal reported earlier that the Canucks were testing the trade market for Joshua.
“I’m hearing Canucks are souring on Joshua. His name is out there,” Dhaliwal said.
However, with Pius Suter departing for the St. Louis Blues, Vancouver may now be more inclined to keep Joshua, who is currently projected to start the season as the team’s fourth-line left winger, per DailyFaceoff.
Maple Leafs Exploring Jarnkrok Trade
Jarnkrok was rumored to be a buyout candidate before free agency began, but the Leafs ultimately chose not to pursue that route. Instead, they’ve reportedly been working to trade him.
According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet:
“I assume one of the players they want to move is Kampf, another could potentially be Jarnkrok,” he said on 32 Thoughts.
Jarnkrok’s name has surfaced in trade discussions before, and his $2.1 million cap hit could help Toronto create space for a more impactful acquisition. Leafs GM Brad Treliving noted the importance of maintaining financial flexibility as the offseason continues.
“We would’ve liked to use that [cap space] earlier today. But if there’s not the right fit to use it on, we will take the flexibility,” Treliving explained.
Currently, the Maple Leafs have approximately $5.3 million in available cap space.
