Veteran pitcher Aaron Wilkerson has decided to opt out of his minor league contract with the Cincinnati Reds, as reported by Ari Alexander of KPRC2.
Wilkerson, 36, posted a 4.17 ERA across 18 starts for Triple-A Louisville, recording 78 strikeouts and a 1.06 WHIP over 95 innings.
He previously appeared in 14 major league games with the Milwaukee Brewers between 2017 and 2019, where he struggled with a 6.88 ERA.
Given that younger arms like Chase Petty and Brian Van Belle have moved ahead of him in the Louisville rotation, Wilkerson’s decision to seek opportunities elsewhere—potentially with a clearer path to the majors—is understandable.
