In case you missed it, Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams unexpectedly announced his retirement on the first day of training camp Thursday, leaving a significant void in the team’s receiving group.
Even with Williams, the Chargers’ depth at receiver was questionable—without him, they’re in serious trouble. That’s why Freddie Boston of Lombardi Ave is urging the team to pursue a trade for Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs.
“The Chargers are in urgent need of wide receiver reinforcements after losing Williams, and if the Packers are willing to part with a starter, it’s ideal if he goes to an AFC team,” Boston wrote.
Green Bay has a surplus of wideouts and could afford to trade Doubs, especially with him entering the final year of his contract.
The 25-year-old recorded 46 receptions for 601 yards and four touchdowns last season and has been a consistent contributor since being drafted in the fourth round in 2022.
Standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 205 pounds, Doubs is a physical target with red-zone value and enough speed to complement rookie Ladd McConkey as a downfield threat for quarterback Justin Herbert.
The Chargers need to make a move to stabilize their receiving corps. Leaning heavily on rookies like Tre Harris and KeAndre Lambert-Smith is risky. Doubs would be a strong addition—but it remains to be seen if Los Angeles is willing to give up draft picks to get him.
