Moroccan striker Youssef El-Arabi is reportedly set to return to Ligue 1, with a two-year deal in place to join FC Nantes, according to reports.
Transfer insider Santi Aouna has revealed that the 38-year-old forward is expected to sign with the French club through June 2027. While the final aspects of the contract are still being ironed out, El-Arabi is poised to complete the move in the coming days.
A veteran of Morocco’s national team, El-Arabi has earned 46 caps and netted 16 goals for the Atlas Lions. His potential return to Ligue 1 marks a full-circle moment, 15 years after launching his professional career in France with SM Caen.
This past season, El-Arabi played for APOEL Nicosia in Cyprus, tallying 14 goals and seven assists across 45 matches in all competitions.
Despite his age, El-Arabi remains a consistent performer. His sharp finishing and wealth of international experience are said to be major reasons behind Nantes’ interest.
With over 300 goals in 610 career appearances, El-Arabi has enjoyed a globe-trotting career, featuring for clubs like Al-Hilal (Saudi Arabia), Granada (Spain), Al-Duhail (Qatar), and Olympiakos (Greece). At Olympiakos, he became the club’s top foreign scorer with 94 goals and was the Greek Super League’s top scorer in both 2020 and 2021.
During his time in Greece, he played alongside fellow Moroccan Ayoub El Kaabi, who recently claimed the Europa League Golden Boot with 11 goals.
