Some hockey analysts had advised Nicholas Robertson and the Toronto Maple Leafs to steer clear of salary arbitration—given how contentious those hearings can be.
It seems both sides agreed.
On Saturday, the Leafs announced they had signed Robertson to a one-year, $1.825 million deal, successfully avoiding arbitration.
Both parties had already submitted their proposed salary figures: Toronto offered $1.2 million, while Robertson requested $2.25 million. The final number landed closer to Robertson’s ask, suggesting a compromise he likely welcomed.
Robertson has established himself as a reliable scoring winger in the depth chart. He recorded 14 goals in 56 games during the 2023–24 season, followed by 15 goals and 7 assists in 69 games in 2024–25, while averaging a career-high 12 minutes of ice time per game.
He appeared in only three playoff games this past season but made an impact with a goal and an assist.
Although Robertson requested a trade last summer, no deal materialized. However, with Mitch Marner now out of the picture, Robertson could be in line for an expanded role—especially if he continues scoring at his current per-minute pace in increased minutes.
While not a blockbuster signing, this is a smart piece of business for Toronto ahead of training camp, allowing the team to shift focus to preparations for the upcoming season.
