Newcastle United could be about to test Wolverhampton Wanderers’ resolve as they continue their hunt for a successor to Alexander Isak this summer.
The Magpies are currently locked in a tense transfer saga with Liverpool over what could become a Premier League record deal for Isak. In the meantime, they’ve suffered setbacks chasing several other centre-forwards — with Benjamin Sesko joining Manchester United, Hugo Ekitike choosing Liverpool, and Joao Pedro sealing a move to Chelsea.
Those frustrations have forced Newcastle to explore alternative options. Brentford’s Yoane Wissa has been on their radar, while Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson has also been linked. But one name stands out above the rest — Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen.
The Norwegian hitman enjoyed a breakthrough debut season in England, firing in 14 goals from 35 appearances. Wolves snapped him up permanently for just £23 million, a price widely seen as a bargain. His aerial dominance, sharp movement, and clinical finishing made him one of the division’s top performers, ranking as the 10th-highest scorer in the league.
According to reports, Strand Larsen has emerged as a potential “dark horse” in Newcastle’s striker chase should other deals fall through. He may lack Isak’s blistering pace, but he makes up for it with intelligent runs, strong hold-up play, and an eye for goal.
However, Wolves will be desperate to keep hold of their star. With survival potentially on the line, selling Larsen — even for a hefty profit — could prove disastrous. His goals may be the difference-maker in keeping Gary O’Neil’s side afloat this season.
For Newcastle, though, Strand Larsen represents a realistic and ready-made option to fill the void left by their Swedish talisman. The question is: will Wolves even listen?
