Daniel Farke will be eager to guide Leeds back to winning ways after the first international break of the season. The Whites got off to a flying start in the Premier League, brushing aside Everton at Elland Road.
That early momentum was halted when Arsenal put five past them at the Emirates. A chance to bounce back came quickly against Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao Cup, but Leeds bowed out on penalties in the second round.
The setback at Hillsborough sparked a response, as Farke’s side dug deep to hold Newcastle to a goalless draw, earning their second clean sheet of the campaign.
French interest in Leeds favourite
According to GOAL, Lyon are keeping tabs on Kalvin Phillips and Nico O’Reilly ahead of the January window. The Ligue 1 club, who recently did business with Manchester City over Rayan Cherki, are reportedly confident of another deal with the English champions. Josh Wilson-Esbrand is also believed to be on their list.
Phillips’ future remains uncertain, with the midfielder struggling to make his mark since leaving Leeds in July 2022.
Dressing room spirit revealed
New signing Jaka Bijol says confidence in the squad remains high despite a mixed start. Speaking to Planet Nogomet, the Slovenian defender stressed that the team believes in its ability to compete:
“All the lads are full of confidence, because of what we’ve already achieved. We know we can match anyone – and if we work together, we’re sure we can stop even the toughest opponents.”
Mixed verdicts on transfers
Nedum Onuoha and Jeff Stelling shared contrasting views on Leeds’ summer business. Onuoha called Sean Longstaff’s £12m move “a sneaky good signing,” praising his Premier League experience.
Stelling, however, expressed doubts: “I can’t get excited about their signings. I don’t see who’s scoring the goals. Calvert-Lewin isn’t reliable, and while Longstaff adds solidity, I still worry for Leeds.”
Leeds Live summed it up: staying in the top flight is never easy for newly-promoted sides, but this season could be different. With favourable fixtures ahead, it’s vital Leeds start strongly once club football resumes.
