With pressure building on Graham Potter, reports suggest West Ham United have quietly opened talks about bringing Frank Lampard back to the London Stadium as a potential successor.
According to Football Insider, intermediaries connected to the Hammers reached out to Lampard—currently in charge of Coventry City—even before West Ham’s surprise 3–0 victory over Nottingham Forest.
Since taking over at Coventry in November 2024, Lampard has overseen a remarkable turnaround. He inherited a side flirting with relegation, yet steered them to a fifth-place finish by the end of the campaign. This season, the momentum has continued, with Coventry firmly in the promotion race—evidence that Lampard’s managerial credentials are strengthening.
By contrast, Potter has endured a difficult start with West Ham. The club sits 16th in the table with just three points from their opening three games, and heavy defeats to Sunderland and Chelsea have raised alarm bells among supporters.
Should the Hammers decide to make a change, Lampard is viewed as a natural fit. Not only has he impressed in the dugout, but his roots run deep in East London, having graduated from West Ham’s famed academy alongside the likes of Joe Cole, Rio Ferdinand, and Michael Carrick. A return would be more than a managerial move—it would be a symbolic homecoming.
For now, Lampard remains focused on Coventry’s promotion push. Yet with Premier League interest growing—and the lure of returning to top-flight management—the timing could be perfect for him to step back into the spotlight.
Meanwhile, another familiar name is also being linked: Jose Mourinho, recently departed from Fenerbahce, is reportedly on West Ham’s radar as well.
