1. FC Köln have been dealt another major blow as defender Luca Kilian faces several more months on the sidelines.
The 26-year-old centre-back picked up a fresh injury in training on Monday, with an MRI scan at the MediaPark Clinic confirming the devastating news – another cruciate ligament tear.
It marks the third time Kilian has suffered the same serious setback in just 18 months. His troubles began in March 2024 when he first tore the ligament during training. After months of recovery, disaster struck again in December while playing for Köln’s U21 side in the Regionalliga West. Against the odds, Kilian fought his way back to join the first team at their summer training camp – only for this latest cruel twist to cut short his return.
Sporting director Thomas Kessler shared his sympathy:
“Luca’s renewed cruciate ligament injury is a huge blow for all of us. It’s incredibly tough that he now faces this challenge for a third time. As a club, we’ll give him every ounce of support and stand by him on this difficult road. Luca is a fighter, and we believe that strength will carry him through once again.”
