West Yorkshire Police have confirmed the arrest of a 28-year-old man after reports of online racist abuse following Bradford City’s away game at Doncaster Rovers last Saturday.

The abuse was directed at Doncaster player and former Bantam Jordan Gibson, and the suspect remains in police custody on suspicion of a malicious communications offence.

Police say they are continuing to work closely with both Bradford City and Doncaster Rovers as investigations continue.

Both clubs have released fresh statements, condemning the abuse in the strongest terms and reaffirming their zero-tolerance stance towards discrimination.

Bradford City said they are fully cooperating with the police and stressed:
“We condemn the abhorrent comment in the strongest possible manner.”

Doncaster Rovers also underlined their commitment to creating a safe and welcoming environment for all, while confirming full support for Gibson during this time.
