After a two-week international break, Premier League football returns this weekend – and Newcastle United are back at St James’ Park.
Eddie Howe’s side face Vitor Pereira’s Wolves in their second home game of the campaign, as they search for their first league win of the season. The Magpies have kept two clean sheets in their opening three matches and will look to make it three from four against a Wolves team still without a point this term.
Newcastle will be missing Yoane Wissa after he picked up a knee injury on international duty, which could see record signing Nick Woltemade handed his first Premier League start.
Ahead of the clash, F1 star Oscar Piastri gave his prediction — and it might leave fans a little nervous. While pundits Chris Sutton and Paul Merson both back Newcastle to come out on top, Piastri believes it’ll be far from comfortable.
“I’m going for a 1-0 win to Newcastle,” he told the Premier League website.
If correct, it would mean another clean sheet for the Magpies, though supporters will be hoping for more attacking fireworks against a side they’ve often dominated in recent years.
The Wolves game kicks off a packed run of fixtures for Howe’s men, including a blockbuster Champions League meeting with Barcelona next week — their first encounter since 2003. With Gavi and Alejandro Balde sidelined, Barca will arrive weakened, but Newcastle still face a huge test.
After that, trips to Bournemouth and Bradford follow, before a daunting schedule against Arsenal, Union SG and Nottingham Forest. Squad rotation will be key as Howe looks to keep his side firing on all fronts.
