Crystal Palace skipper Marc Guehi has expressed his excitement about playing alongside the club’s summer recruits and paid tribute to the fans for their backing as the Eagles sealed qualification for the Europa Conference League.
It marked his first direct message to supporters since his collapsed £35m deadline-day move to Liverpool. Despite a deal being agreed and even filming a farewell video, Palace pulled out late on. Guehi, however, has remained professional, avoiding any disruption behind the scenes.
Following Palace’s 0-0 draw at home to Sunderland, the England defender used his programme notes to connect with fans. While he didn’t mention the failed transfer, he struck an optimistic tone about the season ahead.
Guehi reflected on the challenges of adapting to the Thursday-Sunday schedule of European football and praised the travelling supporters who followed the team to Norway for the tie against Fredrikstad. He also hailed the team’s maturity in grinding out results and pointed to the impressive win away at Aston Villa as evidence of Palace’s growing resilience.
The captain also welcomed new signings Yeremy Pino, Jaydee Canvot and Christantus Uche, saying he looks forward to playing with them as Palace embark on their European journey.
Despite his positive words, Guehi’s long-term future remains uncertain. His current deal expires in 2026, and he is not expected to sign an extension. That could force Palace to consider a sale as early as January. Liverpool are expected to return for him next summer, while Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Chelsea are also monitoring the situation.
From January, overseas clubs could even open pre-contract talks if no new deal is agreed, putting Palace in a difficult position. For now, though, Guehi’s focus appears to be on leading the team into Europe and continuing his captaincy under Oliver Glasner.
