Leeds United fans are growing increasingly concerned that Daniel Farke’s side could struggle to score throughout the season after a goalless draw at Fulham on Saturday. Their worries have been compounded by three puzzling transfer decisions over the summer.
The Whites have now failed to score in their last three Premier League matches and remain without a goal from open play, with their only strike this season coming from a penalty in a 1-0 win over Everton on the opening weekend. On Saturday, Leeds were undone by a last-minute Gabriel Gudmundsson own goal, giving Fulham a 1-0 victory.
Despite competing well in most of their games—apart from the heavy defeat at Arsenal—Leeds’ inability to score from open play across 360 minutes of Premier League action is proving a major concern for Farke. The team’s combined expected goals (xG) for those four matches stands at 3.96, yet they continue to struggle in front of goal, leaving fans fearing a potential relegation battle.
Some bright moments did emerge. Dominic Calvert-Lewin had chances to score, while Sean Longstaff hit the crossbar with a strong effort late in a flowing move. Still, the lack of goals has reignited criticism of the club’s summer recruitment, particularly the reliance on the injury-prone Calvert-Lewin and the departure of winger Largie Ramazani.
Fans have voiced their frustration on social media. One tweeted, “We need another transfer window to crack the code. The fact that the recruitment team think any of these attackers can make it in this league is a joke. DCL is statistically the league’s worst striker, and he’s our best goal scorer. Crazy!” Another added, “If you don’t have an attack capable of scoring, you can’t win. Build a great team around a great striker.”
Supporters are also questioning Farke’s continued selection of Brenden Aaronson and the decisions around other attacking players. Many believe Ramazani’s exit on loan to Valencia removed a vital spark from the squad.
Historically, the fewest goals scored by a team that avoided relegation in a 38-game Premier League season is 28—a record shared by Leeds in 1996/97 and Huddersfield in 2017/18. Fans fear their toothless attack could leave them vulnerable again this season, despite decent performances in defence and midfield.
Off the pitch, Leeds face ongoing transfer stories. Tottenham are reportedly tracking Harry Gray ahead of his 17th birthday, while Fulham may consider selling Harry Wilson in January if certain conditions are met. Links to a £40m-rated striker have also been dismissed after the player expressed higher ambitions.
Fans remain concerned about Leeds’ scoring struggles and are already debating whether Farke’s side can survive the Premier League this season.
