Wolves forward Jorgen Strand Larsen has secured a new five-year contract with an option to extend for an additional year. The Norwegian striker, who had interest from Newcastle United during the summer transfer window, is also nearing a return from an Achilles injury for the upcoming match against Leeds United on Saturday.
Newcastle made two unsuccessful bids for Larsen, with their highest offer reaching £55million (€63m), before Wolves confirmed the new deal. Larsen expressed his happiness, stating, “I’m incredibly happy at Wolves. This new contract shows my commitment, and I love my teammates, the fans, and the club. We want to turn our season around and make it better than the last.”
Having missed Wolves’ last two matches and Norway’s recent internationals due to injury, Larsen returned to full training and is expected to be available as a substitute against Leeds. Head coach Vitor Pereira emphasized the significance of the contract, saying, “It’s crucial for raising our level. Jorgen brings not just tactical and technical skills but also spirit and personality. He’s only had one training session, but I hope he can contribute in some capacity tomorrow.”
The new contract is a major boost for Wolves, especially as it lacks a release clause, unlike Matheus Cunha’s deal, which anticipated a move to Manchester United. Larsen’s summer interest from Newcastle, where he hoped to play Champions League football, didn’t materialize after the club signed Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa instead. To attract similar high-profile offers in the future, Larsen will need to build on his strong debut season (14 goals, four assists in 35 Premier League games). This development is a positive step for Wolves’ ambitions.
