Leicester City Finalise Two Late Deadline-Day Loan Exits
Leicester, England – Leicester City have wrapped up two outgoing loan deals on the final day of the summer transfer window, confirming that young prospects Nathan Opoku and Woyo Coulibaly will spend the season gaining valuable experience away from the King Power Stadium.
The double departure, announced just hours before the September 1, 2025 deadline, reflects manager Ruud van Nistelrooy’s focus on player development and maintaining a balanced squad as the Foxes navigate a demanding Premier League campaign.
Forward Nathan Opoku, 20, who joined from Toronto FC in 2023, has secured a season-long loan to Newport County in League Two. After catching the eye with his pace and finishing at U21 level, Opoku is expected to strengthen Newport’s promotion push under manager Nelson Jardim.
Also departing is Woyo Coulibaly, the 19-year-old midfielder signed from Parma in January 2024. With first-team opportunities limited, he will join Sassuolo on loan for the remainder of the 2025–26 season. The Italian club, rebuilding after relegation, view him as a high-upside talent, with director Giovanni Carnevali praising his maturity and technical ability.
The moves coincide with a busy window for Leicester, who have already sanctioned the sales of Kasey McAteer to Ipswich Town and James Justin to Leeds United, helping fund the arrivals of Moroccan playmaker Bilal El Khannouss and striker Julian Carranza.
Van Nistelrooy stressed the long-term vision behind the exits:
