A lot is unfolding in Philadelphia, even if little of it is official. The franchise is on the verge of losing one of its top power hitters, Kyle Schwarber. It’s fair to say the Phillies wouldn’t have reached the postseason without him—his 56 homers and steady production were crucial throughout 2025. But after declining the club’s qualifying offer, keeping him in Philadelphia has become far more complicated.
At the same time, the Phillies must address the situation with J.T. Realmuto, one of the league’s premier catchers. Realmuto has entered free agency and is seeking at least a two-year contract. With both Schwarber and Realmuto in play, Phillies executive Dave Dombrowski faces significant decisions, and finding a way to retain both stars won’t be simple.

Alec Bohm has been tied to multiple teams for over a year, and his long-term outlook in Philadelphia appears to be fading. His underwhelming 2025 campaign certainly doesn’t help his case to remain with the Phillies.
Even so, Bohm stands out as the team’s most valuable trade asset this offseason. Reporting from ESPN’s Jeff Passan and Kiley McDaniel suggests that if the Phillies can’t lock down Schwarber, Bohm could be the one moved. Of course, the reverse scenario is also possible.
“Bohm is essentially gone. If they allocate their money elsewhere, they could still trade him and either add a short-term third baseman or hand the job to top prospect Aidan Miller. In what’s shaping up to be a winter of transition in Philadelphia, Bohm is one of the Phillies most likely to depart,” Passan and McDaniel wrote.
Bohm is owed nearly $10 million and has one year of team control left (pending arbitration). Should the Phillies find a trade partner, they would open up financial flexibility that could help them re-sign Schwarber, whose next contract will be massive. It’s no secret Philadelphia has considered moving Bohm to improve their odds of bringing Schwarber back.
Ultimately, the futures of Schwarber and Realmuto hinge on the Phillies’ next steps. And for Bohm, as Passan and McDaniel noted, he appears all but certain to be on his way out.
