One of college football’s most intense rivalries will take center stage this weekend as Auburn heads to Tuscaloosa to take on Alabama on Saturday night. The Tigers are already stirring up the rivalry five days before kickoff!
Freshman linebacker has made some bold remarks, taking aim at a couple of Alabama’s star players. He also promised Auburn fans that the team is ready to pull off the upset.
Alabama enters the game reeling from a lopsided loss to Oklahoma, which dashed their SEC Championship hopes and likely eliminated them from the College Football Playoff conversation. Auburn, on the other hand, is riding high after a win over No. 15 Texas A&M and is eager to keep the momentum going.
Last season, Auburn nearly pulled off an upset, with Alabama needing a last-minute miracle 4th-and-31 conversion on a Jalen Milroe touchdown pass to secure the win. The loss left Auburn in shock, with silence filling Jordan-Hare Stadium.
This year, the Tigers are looking for revenge in Bryant-Denny Stadium, and Riddick is already vocal about his intentions. He declared that he “will not lose to Alabama” during his time at Auburn—a bold declaration indeed.
In a recent interview, Riddick also threw shade at Alabama’s star quarterback Jalen Milroe and standout receiver Ryan Williams. Riddick dismissed Williams as “nobody” and “not a big-time player,” despite Williams leading the team with 804 receiving yards this season. He also claimed to be faster than Milroe, who was clocked at 22.5 MPH earlier this year on a long touchdown run against LSU. We’ll see if he can catch him on Saturday.
These trash talk comments are sure to add fuel to the fire for Alabama, who now finds themselves in a must-win situation for any remaining playoff hopes. The fans in Tuscaloosa will certainly make sure Riddick hears it if their stars shine during the game.
Rivalries like this are what make college football so exciting, and Riddick is quickly establishing himself as the villain in his first year. The Iron Bowl can’t come soon enough!
