BEAKING JUST IN: Pitt OL 5-star confirm a departure through the transfer portal

PITTSBURGH —  Pitt offensive lineman 5-star has found a new home for the 2025 season, committing to Appalachian State after a campus visit on April 21. He also received transfer offers from Liberty and FCS programs Bucknell and Eastern Kentucky.

Originally from Langenfeld, Germany (population ~60,000), Schmoranzer moved to Virginia in 2021 before his sophomore year of high school. He attended North Cross School in Roanoke, where he played both offensive and defensive line. His efforts earned him Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association (VISAA) Division II All-State honors—First Team on offense and Second Team on defense—while helping lead the team to a 21-3 record and two straight state championships.

Schmoranzer had offers from Miami, Virginia Tech, and West Virginia before committing to Pitt on June 30, 2023. He joined the Panthers as an early enrollee in January 2024 and participated in spring practices both last year and this year. However, he redshirted in 2024 and did not appear in any games, preserving four years of eligibility.

He’s one of five offensive linemen to enter the portal following Pitt’s spring practices, alongside redshirt freshman Adham Abouraya, redshirt sophomore twins Brody and Graysen Riffe, and redshirt senior Terrence Enos Jr. Schmoranzer is also among eight total Panthers to transfer after the Spring Game, including redshirt senior tight end Jake Renda and redshirt wide receivers Andy Jean (a Florida transfer) and Cameron Monteiro.

To fill gaps, Pitt brought in three offensive linemen during the winter transfer window: sixth-year senior Jeffrey Persi (Michigan), redshirt senior Keith Gouveia (Richmond), and redshirt junior Kendall Stanley (Charlotte). They also return starters Ryan Baer, Lyndon Cooper, and BJ Williams.

The team heads into 2025 with solid depth at offensive line, including redshirt juniors Isaiah Montgomery and Jackson Brown, redshirt sophomores Ryan Caretta and Tai Ray, and redshirt freshmen Caleb Holmes, Jiavanni Cooley, and Mason Lindsay. Four new linemen also signed with Pitt’s 2025 recruiting class: Shep Turk (Thomas Jefferson HS, PA), Torian Chester (Westover HS, GA), Jordan Fields (North Shore HS, TX), and Akram Elnagmi (NFL Academy, UK).
