Buffalo Bills wide receiver Curtis Samuel has faced challenges with injuries and inconsistent form since his move from the Washington Commanders, but he appears to be finding his rhythm in the AFC East. In Joe Brady’s offense, Josh Allen has a variety of weapons to target, and the team embraces the “everybody eats” mentality, contributing to their 9-2 record. Samuel, like other offensive players, had his breakout moment in the Bills’ 31-20 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, recording a season-high five catches for 58 yards and his first touchdown with Buffalo. Brady praised Samuel’s performance, noting his growth.
“Up to this point, not exactly what Curtis was expecting, but he’s been battling a lot of injuries,” Brady said. “It was nice to see him the last two weeks healthy out there, moving around and getting a taste of who he is, and I feel like you can see the confidence, the speed, the race [run after catch] ability with him, made a lot of plays out there. Something that to continue to build on and get our offense where we’re going to want to eventually be, we’re going to need him.”
Samuel had been used sparingly in Buffalo, recording two or fewer catches in six games this season. However, his standout performance against the Chiefs marked a significant shift.
While it’s unlikely that Samuel will deliver such a performance every week, his big game gives Allen added confidence in him as a reliable option when needed. It was Samuel’s first real game-changing performance as a Bill, and it will surely stick with both Allen and Brady moving forward. After 10 games, it seems Samuel is finally making his mark in Buffalo.
