The Boston Bruins announced a major shake-up in their coaching staff by relieving Jim Montgomery of his duties as head coach. This decision comes after a disappointing start to the 2024-25 NHL season, with the Bruins struggling to find consistency through the first 20 games. Montgomery, who led the team to a historic 65-win season in 2022-23, was let go to address the team’s performance issues.
Joe Sacco, a longtime associate coach with the Bruins, has been named interim head coach. Sacco, a Massachusetts native, brings extensive NHL coaching experience, including a stint as head coach of the Colorado Avalanche from 2009-2013. Bruins GM Don Sweeney and team president Cam Neely expressed their gratitude for Montgomery’s contributions but emphasized the need for a new direction to meet the franchise’s high standards.
