Bradford City boss Graham Alexander has left fans stunned after securing yet another midfield addition this summer — and he didn’t hold back with his reaction. The Bantams’ manager admitted he is “buzzing” about the signing, before dropping a shocking statement that has supporters talking:

The 31-year-old midfielder became a free agent earlier this week after parting ways with Stockport County. He had joined the Greater Manchester club in 2023 on a three-year deal following his release from Stoke City. In his debut season at Edgeley Park, he played a key role in guiding the Hatters to promotion from League Two, scoring three goals in 32 appearances.

However, last season turned into a nightmare for the former England Under-21 international. A string of injuries restricted him to just seven outings, causing him to slip down the pecking order.

Alexander Backs Powell to Shine at Bradford

Despite lingering concerns over Powell’s fitness, Bantams boss Graham Alexander is convinced the midfielder still has plenty to offer. Bradford, back in League One for the first time since 2019, have started the campaign brightly and sit fourth after four matches – their latest victory coming against Stockport on Tuesday. Powell could now be in contention for Saturday’s trip to Peterborough United.

Speaking on the signing, Alexander admitted every deal carries an element of risk but insisted the potential reward was worth it:

“Every signing you make has an element of risk. There’s also a leap of faith.
Everything we do is risk or reward… and I feel the reward we could potentially get from Nick, and what he could get from us, makes this the right move.”

The Bradford manager praised Powell’s technical quality and intelligence on the ball, while acknowledging injuries have hampered his progress in recent years.

“It’s just injuries that have hit him hard. But he’s got great people around him to support him and I’m excited about what Nick can bring to us.”
