Bradford City boss Graham Alexander has confirmed that the club are keeping close watch on the free agent market, with potential additions still being considered even though the transfer window has closed. The manager revealed he is receiving regular updates from the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) summer training camp, where a number of unattached players are training to stay fit and catch the eye of clubs.
Head of recruitment Stephen Gent has also been active in this process, attending recent matches featuring PFA players as City assess who could bolster their squad. With a long campaign ahead and the inevitable challenges of injuries and suspensions, Alexander stressed the importance of staying alert and ready to act quickly if the right player becomes available.
“We’re always reviewing things,” Alexander explained. “The window being closed doesn’t mean the work stops. There are still quality players out there, and we’re making sure we’re prepared if the right opportunity comes along.”
His remarks come as speculation grows around a possible return for a former forward, with some supporters calling for more firepower in attack. Alexander did not dismiss the idea but was clear that any signing would need to suit the team both on and off the field.
“There will always be talk when a familiar name is linked,” he said. “But what matters is whether a player can genuinely strengthen us now and in the future. We already have a strong squad, and anyone new has to be the right fit — not just a sentimental choice.”
