Earlier this week, Pitt’s 2027 wide receiver commit Jacob Thomas turned heads with a blazing track performance.
The explosive receiver from Charles W. Flanagan High School in Hollywood, Florida, originally committed to Pitt on March 1, becoming the first pledge in the Panthers’ 2027 class. Shortly after, running back Tyler Reid—brother of current Pitt star Desmond Reid—also committed, joining Thomas in the class.
Thomas had already posted an impressive 10.71-second 100-meter sprint last May, with a personal best of 10.6 listed on his X profile. But at a district meet this week, the 5-foot-10, 160-pound playmaker shattered his previous mark, clocking a scorching 10.38.
That kind of elite speed helped him rack up 27 receptions for 604 yards and four touchdowns last season at Flanagan, along with 11 kick returns for 290 yards and a score, plus two punt returns for 25 yards.
“Clocked 10.3 At Districts Yesterday!! Regionals Next Up,” Thomas posted on X on April 22.
Since his commitment to Pitt, Thomas’ national profile has soared. Just four days later, UCF and Kentucky offered him scholarships. Boston College followed on March 19, then Miami on March 22 and Marshall on March 24. Florida International joined the mix on March 27, followed by a big offer from Florida State on April 1. Then, within an hour of posting his new personal best time, Thomas announced a fresh offer from Toledo.
All of this presents a looming challenge for Pat Narduzzi and his staff, who will have to fend off rising interest in their speedster commit between now and National Signing Day 2027.
In an interview with On SI after his commitment, Thomas spoke highly of the Pitt staff:
“Those are some great guys, man. I feel like they love me and I could fit in their system very well. He was telling me how he runs his plays and how my speed is very rare to find. They always stay in touch, and I love that. They tell me if I come, I’ll be challenged every week in practice. So I just felt like it was a great fit.”
With his rare speed and growing résumé, Thomas is the type of talent every college program wants.
