The Chicago Bears are entering a critical point in their offseason with mandatory OTAs kicking off this week. While much of the attention is on player development and implementing new systems under head coach Ben Johnson, there’s growing speculation surrounding the roster. As the next phase of free agency approaches, one prominent name has emerged as a potential late addition—capturing the interest of both fans and league insiders.
Nick Chubb, a four-time Pro Bowl running back, has been a model of consistency since his 2018 debut. Despite a serious knee injury that cut his 2023 season short, the 29-year-old has racked up over 6,500 rushing yards in his career. His future in Cleveland is uncertain, and ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler suggested on ESPN Cleveland—and via a clip on X (formerly Twitter)—that Chubb likely won’t return to the Browns. According to Fowler, teams like the Bears and Commanders could be logical fits for a veteran back.
Chicago’s current backfield includes D’Andre Swift, who came close to 1,000 yards last season, along with second-year player Roschon Johnson and rookie Kyle Monangai, drafted in the seventh round.
Even with that depth, Chubb’s physicality, leadership, and postseason experience could be a valuable asset to an offense in transition. With no official move yet, the big question is whether the Bears are willing to take a chance on a high-reward player coming off injury as they continue building around a young quarterback and a reshaped offensive scheme.
