The Carolina Hurricanes have signed 22-year-old forward to an eight-year contract extension worth \$6 million annually.
He, who was set to enter the final year of his entry-level deal, joined Carolina from Dallas as part of the Mikko Rantanen trade and quickly proved to be a strong addition. He tallied five goals in 19 regular-season appearances and added another five in 15 playoff games, helping the Hurricanes reach the Eastern Conference Final before falling to the eventual Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers.
“From the moment he got to Raleigh, it was obvious Logan fit our culture,” said Hurricanes general manager Eric Tulsky. “We’re excited he feels the same and is committed to our team for the long haul.”
Dallas had been reluctant to include Stankoven—its 2021 second-round pick—in the trade, but Carolina insisted on it as part of the deal for Rantanen.
In the 2023–24 season, Stankoven played 24 regular-season games and 19 playoff contests for the Stars. Still classified as a rookie under NHL rules, he finished in the top 10 in Calder Trophy voting. The 5-foot-8 British Columbia native has also represented Canada multiple times in international play.
The Hurricanes enter free agency with significant salary cap flexibility. Under Tulsky’s leadership, Carolina has developed a reputation for bold moves, and the team has now reached the playoffs seven years in a row, including three Eastern Conference Final appearances.
