When the Philadelphia Eagles traded Bryce Huff to the San Francisco 49ers on Friday afternoon, it sent a clear message to one particular player on their roster.
That player is Jalyx Hunt — a former third-round pick who exceeded expectations in his first year. Coming out of Houston Christian University, Hunt was originally projected to spend most of the 2024 season on the bench as a depth piece at edge rusher.
But something changed.
The more opportunities Hunt got, the more he delivered. His presence grew stronger with each game.
He finished his rookie year with 1.5 sacks, then matched that total in the playoffs — including a key sack in Super Bowl LIX.
Now, with a championship ring on his finger and Huff out of the picture, Hunt enters Year 2 with higher expectations than ever.
“I’m expecting to do what’s expected of me,” Hunt said this week. “Whatever the team needs, I’ll be ready.”
With Nolan Smith still recovering from a torn triceps, the Eagles will be relying heavily on Hunt to step up.
And he’s ready for the challenge. He’s setting ambitious personal goals as he heads into his sophomore campaign.
“I put in a lot of work because I have high standards for myself,” Hunt said. “I’ll keep doing my job, staying focused on what I can control. As we get closer to the season, I’ll have a better sense of my role. For now, I’m just focused on improving.”
With Huff’s departure creating a major void on the defensive line, Hunt is poised to take on a significantly larger role in 2025.
