In one of the standout transfers of the summer, Fenerbahce have completed the signing of Belgian international Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa.
The 28-year-old midfielder, famed for his vision, passing ability and eye for spectacular goals, had been tracked by several elite European clubs during the window. Yet it is the Turkish Super Lig giants who have won the battle, landing a proven Premier League performer in a deal that showcases their lofty ambitions.
Tielemans brings to Istanbul vast experience at the highest level. A former Leicester City and Aston Villa star with over 60 caps for Belgium, he arrives as a leader and playmaker capable of immediately elevating Fenerbahce’s midfield as they aim for domestic dominance and European success.
Turkish media have already hailed the move as a “transfer coup”, with fans celebrating wildly on social platforms. For Villa, it closes a chapter in which Tielemans became an influential figure, while for Fenerbahce, it signals the dawn of a bold new era.
According to Sabah, relayed by Sport Witness, the Yellow Canaries had been locked in intense negotiations with Villa throughout the summer. The English club initially valued Tielemans at around €35 million, while Fenerbahce pushed to close the deal nearer €25 million. After weeks of talks, the Turkish heavyweights intensified their pursuit and finally got their man.
Since arriving at Villa Park on a free transfer in 2023 following his Leicester exit, Tielemans steadily grew into a pivotal figure for the Midlands side. In two seasons, he amassed close to 100 appearances, contributing 28 goals and 26 assists, cementing his reputation as one of Europe’s most technically gifted midfielders.
He had also attracted interest from other clubs, including Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr, but Fenerbahce’s persistence paid off. With José Mourinho keen to strengthen his creative options for the 2025/26 campaign, Tielemans is seen as the ideal addition to anchor and inspire the squad.
Now, with the Belgian star set to wear the famous yellow-and-navy shirt, Fenerbahce fans are daring to dream of silverware at home and abroad — and Tielemans’ arrival could well be the catalyst for a season to remember.
