Matthew Stafford’s decision to commit his future to the LA Rams has reportedly prompted the New York Giants to consider pursuing Aaron Rodgers.
According to Adam Schefter, Stafford has agreed to a restructured deal with the Rams, dealing a setback to the Giants’ search for a new quarterback. This move also eliminates the possibility of Rodgers replacing Stafford in Los Angeles, a scenario that had been speculated if Stafford left for New York.
In response, Schefter reports that Giants officials are now exploring “all veteran quarterback options,” including Rodgers.
The 41-year-old quarterback is set to become a free agent after being released by the Jets, following a disappointing two-year stint under now-former head coach Aaron Glenn. Rodgers, who missed nearly all of his first season with the Jets due to an Achilles injury, has been contemplating retirement after a 5-12 season but has yet to make a final decision.
Recent reports suggest Rodgers has already reached out to the Giants, expressing interest in staying at MetLife Stadium. Mike Florio reports that his preference to remain in the area could make a move to the Giants a logical fit.
With the Giants having parted ways with Daniel Jones in November and rotating between backups Tommy DeVito and Drew Lock, finding a new starting quarterback is a top priority for head coach Brian Daboll. As of now, DeVito is the only quarterback under contract for the 2025 season.
Rodgers initially joined the Jets in 2023 following a blockbuster trade from the Green Bay Packers but suffered a season-ending injury just minutes into his debut. His much-anticipated return in 2024 coincided with further turmoil for the Jets, culminating in the firing of head coach Robert Saleh. Now, with his future uncertain, the Giants are seriously evaluating whether Rodgers could be the solution to their quarterback woes.
