Union, Kentucky linebacker Jacob Savage, a 2026 prospect, announced his top seven schools on Saturday, with Minnesota making the cut alongside Georgia Tech, Indiana, Michigan State, Louisville, Northwestern, and Purdue.
Savage plays for Ryle High School, the same program that produced former Gophers quarterback Tanner Morgan in the 2017 class. Unlike Morgan, however, Savage is a more highly regarded recruit, currently ranked No. 586 nationally in the latest 247Sports Composite. He is listed as the No. 52 linebacker and the fifth-best player in Kentucky.
“Gophers have had some success tapping into Union, KY…,” Morgan noted on X earlier this week.
At 6-foot-1 and 219 pounds, Savage showcased his versatility as a junior, excelling at both linebacker and running back. He recorded 141 total tackles, 17 tackles for loss, three sacks, and one interception last season.
Minnesota extended an offer to Savage on January 29, but he has already scheduled an official visit to Indiana. While the Gophers may have work to do to compete with the other programs in his top seven, the recruiting process is far from over.
