UNC Basketball is closing in on its next major transfer portal addition, with BYU forward Kanon Catchings looking like a strong possibility. The 6-foot-9 rising sophomore is scheduled to visit Chapel Hill on Friday, and according to On3’s Pete Nakos, he’s expected to commit to the Tar Heels. UNC’s hunt for a point guard might be over with the addition of Kyan Evans. The rising junior recently delivered an impressive performance, scoring 23 points and knocking down six three-pointers while running the offense effectively.
Additionally, UNC’s search for point guard depth had previously included targets like Princeton’s Xaivion Lee and Evans himself, as discussed on the Locked On Tar Heels podcast. Host Isaac Schade broke down Lee’s strong 16.9 points per game showing this past season.
Finally, Kanon Catchings’ visit to UNC is set to begin Friday, right after the end of the NCAA’s “dead period” for recruiting.
