The New York Giants are gearing up for a pivotal 2025 NFL Draft, holding the No. 3 overall pick — a spot that puts them in prime position to select one of the class’s elite prospects. However, they may also use the pick to secure their future at quarterback, a tough call especially after some notable moves in free agency.
ESPN’s Latest Mock Draft Has Giants Selecting a Quarterback
In his most recent mock draft, ESPN’s Field Yates predicts the Giants will stand pat at No. 3 and select Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders. This choice would come despite the team’s recent signings of veteran quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston.
“Even with the additions of Wilson and Winston, I don’t see the Giants passing on Sanders,” Yates wrote. “If they believe he’s their long-term solution under center, then the veteran deals don’t matter. This would be a pick aimed at long-term stability. Sanders has elite accuracy and touch — he threw for 4,134 yards and completed 74% of his passes last season — but needs to work on reacting faster under pressure.”
Yates also noted that having experienced quarterbacks like Wilson and Winston on the roster would give Sanders time to develop without the immediate pressure of starting as a rookie.
Giants Trade Down in Round 2, Target Alabama Offensive Lineman
Yates projected that after taking Sanders in the first round, the Giants will trade back from their No. 34 overall pick in Round 2 to gain more draft capital. With the new pick, he has them selecting Alabama offensive lineman Tyler Booker.
“In this scenario, the Giants drop back from No. 34, gain an extra fourth-rounder in a deep draft class, and still land Booker, who would’ve been a worthy selection at their original spot,” Yates explained. “Booker is one of the most physically dominant players in the draft and gave up just one sack in 38 college games.”
Booker could address a pressing need on the offensive line, particularly at guard — an area the Giants didn’t upgrade significantly this offseason. Although he primarily played left guard at Alabama, the team may look to transition him to right guard as a long-term replacement for veteran Greg Van Roten. That change could take some adjustment.
After finishing 3-14 last season, the Giants are under pressure to start winning games. Still, this mock draft emphasizes building for the future rather than quick fixes. Striking the right balance between immediate contributors and long-term assets will be critical to the team’s rebuilding efforts.
