If the New York Mets fail to retain fan favorite Pete Alonso, many expect them to aggressively pursue Vladimir Guerrero Jr. during the 2026 offseason. However, other big-name sluggers will also hit free agency after the 2025 season, including outfielder Kyle Tucker.
During his tenure with the Houston Astros, Tucker established himself as one of baseball’s top outfield hitters. Over seven seasons, the three-time All-Star has posted a career .274 batting average and an impressive .870 OPS. He has hit over 20 home runs in four consecutive seasons, with 25 homers in three of the last four years.
The Chicago Cubs traded a highly regarded prospect and controllable players for a single season of Tucker. At nearly 28 years old, Tucker’s elite offensive production made the trade worthwhile in Chicago’s view.
How Would Kyle Tucker Fit on the Mets?
If the Mets sign Tucker this offseason, their outfield would become one of the league’s best. Brandon Nimmo would likely return to center field, a position he played well in 2022. Juan Soto in right field remains a defensive liability, but his exceptional hitting offsets any shortcomings. Pairing Tucker with Nimmo and Soto would give the Mets a trio of elite offensive contributors in the outfield.
While landing Guerrero Jr. next offseason would be a huge win, re-signing Alonso and bringing in Tucker in 2026 might be just as impactful. A lineup featuring Alonso, Tucker, Soto, Nimmo, Francisco Lindor, and Mark Vientos would make the Mets’ offense a juggernaut.
The decision to re-sign Alonso will significantly shape the Mets’ offseason plans. If they extend the Polar Bear, it could take them out of the running for Guerrero Jr. However, with Tucker set to hit the open market, team owner Steve Cohen still has a path to building a superteam.
