The Michigan Wolverines finished the 2024 season strong, defeating both the Ohio State Buckeyes and Alabama Crimson Tide, while also securing their highest-ever ranked recruiting class.
That momentum is carrying over as the Wolverines aim to land another top-tier recruit for their already impressive 2025 class.
This weekend, Michigan will host five-star offensive tackle Ty Haywood from Denton (Texas) Ryan for an official visit. If he commits, Haywood would be the third five-star recruit to join the Wolverines this year, joining quarterback Bryce Underwood and offensive tackle Andrew Babalola.
Haywood had been committed to Alabama for several months but recently decommitted. Though many expected him to make his final decision on National Signing Day in February, that timeline could change if Michigan impresses him this weekend.
Securing Haywood would be a major victory for Michigan. The offensive line last season was one of the weakest in recent memory, struggling in both the run game and pass protection.
However, Michigan seems to be making the right move by prioritizing the trenches to support Underwood’s development. With Babalola on one side and Haywood on the other, Michigan would have one of its most talented offensive tackle duos in years—both players would be the highest-ranked offensive line recruits the program has ever landed.
We’ve seen how much Michigan’s offense can thrive with a solid offensive line. Combine that with Underwood’s abilities, and the Wolverines’ offense could be more exciting than it has been in a long time.
Winning in the trenches is a proven formula for success. Given Ohio State’s defensive line play in the playoffs, along with Oregon and Penn State’s strong defensive fronts, investing in the offensive line is a smart strategy for Michigan to compete at the highest level, rather than focusing solely on skill positions like receivers and running backs.
