The New Orleans Saints have officially announced that Kellen Moore will become the 19th head coach in franchise history.
Moore, a 13-year NFL veteran, played quarterback for six seasons (2012-17) before transitioning to coaching in 2018. He has spent the past six seasons as an offensive coordinator, most recently with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024.
Saints owner Gayle Benson emphasized the importance of finding the right fit for the organization, stating that Moore stood out during the search process as the ideal candidate to restore the team’s winning culture. She also expressed gratitude to Darren Rizzi for his service as interim coach last season.
Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis welcomed Moore and praised his leadership, communication skills, and vision for the team.
Moore expressed his appreciation for the opportunity, thanking Benson and the Saints organization for their trust. He also acknowledged the Eagles for an incredible 2024 season and said he is eager to begin his new role.
During the 2024 season, Moore played a key role in guiding the Eagles to a 14-3 record, an NFC East title, and a Super Bowl LIX championship at the Caesars Superdome. Under his leadership, Philadelphia ranked eighth in total offense and seventh in scoring, setting a franchise record with 3,048 rushing yards—the sixth-most in NFL history. The Eagles were only the second team ever to rush for over 3,000 yards and at least 25 touchdowns in a season.
In the playoffs, the Eagles’ dominant rushing attack continued, setting a franchise postseason record with 285 rushing yards against the Rams in the NFC Divisional Round. In the NFC Championship, Philadelphia exploded for 55 points in a win over Washington, including 229 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. In the Super Bowl victory over Kansas City, quarterback Jalen Hurts earned MVP honors with 221 passing yards, two touchdowns, and 72 rushing yards, setting a Super Bowl record for rushing yards by a quarterback.
The Eagles’ offense was fueled by standout performances, including running back Saquon Barkley, who led the league with 2,005 rushing yards, becoming just the ninth player in NFL history to surpass 2,000 yards in a season. With an additional 499 rushing yards in the playoffs, Barkley set an NFL record for total single-season rushing yards (2,504). Hurts also had an outstanding season, ranking in the league’s top eight in several passing categories while tying for the most rushing touchdowns (14) among quarterbacks.
Moore’s coaching success extends beyond Philadelphia. In 2023, he was the Chargers’ offensive coordinator, helping Keenan Allen to a Pro Bowl season and guiding Justin Herbert to strong passing numbers before his injury. Prior to that, he spent four seasons as the Cowboys’ offensive coordinator (2019-22), leading one of the NFL’s most productive offenses, ranking second in total yards and scoring over that span. He played a key role in multiple NFC East titles and playoff appearances while coaching Pro Bowlers like Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott, and CeeDee Lamb.
Before his coaching career, Moore played in the NFL for the Lions and Cowboys. A record-setting quarterback at Boise State, he remains the winningest quarterback in NCAA history with 50 career victories.
Moore and his wife, Julie, have four children.
