PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) — The New York Mets have signed right-hander José Ureña to a minor league contract, finalizing the deal on Friday.
The 33-year-old agreed to terms with New York following injuries to right-hander Frankie Montas (lat strain) and left-hander Sean Manaea (right oblique strain).
Last season, Ureña posted a 5-8 record with a 3.80 ERA over nine starts and 24 relief outings for Texas, recording 70 strikeouts and 39 walks across 109 innings. As a starter, he went 2-6 with a 5.08 ERA.
Over 10 major league seasons, Ureña has compiled a 44-77 record with a 4.76 ERA while playing for Miami (2015-20), Detroit (2021), Milwaukee (2022), Colorado (2022-23), the Chicago White Sox (2023), and Texas.
