BREAKING NEWS: 5.5-sack star sign a comeback deal to Boise State football after testing transfer portal waters

A unique situation has recently developed with the Boise State football team. Star defensive tackle Braxton Fely initially decided to enter the college football transfer portal after spring practices. However, after exploring his options, Fely chose to return to the Broncos. Having been with Boise State for three seasons, he realized that staying with the program was the best decision for him.

“Boise State standout defensive lineman Braxton Fely, who entered the transfer portal earlier this month, has withdrawn and will remain at Boise State, according to his agent @BNM_777k,” reported Matt Zenitz of @CBSSports/@247Sports. “This is a big boost for Boise.”

Following the announcement of Fely’s return on Monday, Broncos head coach Spencer Danielson shared a video on social media to address the situation.

“Good morning, Bronco Nation. Hope everyone is doing well,” Danielson said. “I wanted to talk about Braxton. As I shared with the media a couple of weeks ago when Braxton left, it was really tough. Braxton is like family to me, like a son. When he decided to leave, we hadn’t spoken since. Then last week, after visiting some other schools, he and his wife called me — it was a very emotional conversation. They expressed from their hearts, ‘Coach, we want to come home. We see the value at Boise State.’ It wasn’t about money. They said, ‘We want to come back because we believe this is the best place for me to grow and become my best, on and off the field.’”

It’s rare to see a head coach speak so openly about a transfer portal situation, which highlights just how significant Fely is to Danielson and the entire Boise State program.

“Our conversation was emotional. After praying about it and talking with the team, I felt the best thing was to bring Brax back,” Danielson continued. “He’s family. There will be steps he needs to take to rebuild trust with his teammates and coaches, but knowing Braxton, he’ll tackle that challenge head-on. I’m confident he’ll not only contribute on the field but also be a great teammate and community member. I’m thrilled to have him back.”

Last season, Braxton Fely was a key piece of Boise State’s defense, recording 24 tackles and 5.5 sacks. He’s expected to be a dominant force for the Broncos this upcoming season.
