Five-star freshman Derrion Reid enters the final month of the regular season with uncertainty due to his injury.
Reid has been ruled out for Alabama’s upcoming game against Arkansas, and his status beyond that remains uncertain as he continues to recover from a lower-body injury.
“He’ll be evaluated on a game-to-game basis,” Alabama head coach Nate Oats said Friday. “He needs to complete a full practice without significant discomfort before returning.”
Reid previously missed multiple games in January due to the injury but returned to play 12 minutes in wins over Mississippi State and Georgia.
“Derrion experienced some discomfort after the Georgia game,” Oats explained. “We rested him, then gradually increased his workload. Since we expect him to have a long, successful career beyond college, we’re prioritizing his long-term health rather than rushing him back just to win games.”
The freshman, a former McDonald’s All-American, has averaged 16.9 minutes per game this season, contributing 7.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.3 steals, 0.3 blocks, and one turnover per game.
Alabama’s next matchup is against Arkansas on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
