Discussions surrounding the Alabama quarterback competition have largely focused on the Tide’s most seasoned signal-caller, Ty Simpson, and standout freshman and former five-star recruit, Keelon Russell.

The battle between the three contenders is expected to intensify during spring practices, where each quarterback will have a chance to prove themselves and potentially secure the starting role for the Crimson Tide. According to previous comments from Kalen DeBoer, Mack is working hard to make himself a strong contender in the race.
“He’s one of the hardest workers on the team,” DeBoer said of Mack during the 2024 season. “There are a lot of guys who put in significant effort, but he’s doing something extra pretty much every day. Pick an early morning when we don’t have practice—he’s somewhere in a facility, putting in the work.”
A California native, Mack began his collegiate career at Washington before transferring to Alabama when Kalen DeBoer was named the Tide’s head coach. During the 2024 season, Mack served as Alabama’s fourth-string quarterback and saw limited action, appearing in just one game.
In his lone appearance against Mercer, Mack completed two passes for 39 yards and a touchdown, showcasing his ability to deliver accurate deep throws.
The former four-star prospect graduated high school a year early after an impressive junior season, throwing for over 3,000 yards and 40 touchdowns with just five interceptions. His accuracy and ability to operate efficiently from the pocket were standout aspects of his game during that time.
All eyes will be on Tuscaloosa as the competition unfolds, with fans eager to see who will emerge as the Crimson Tide’s next starting quarterback.
