Aston Villa have officially bid farewell to midfielder Jacob Ramsey as he prepares for a £40 million move to Premier League rivals Newcastle United. The Villa academy graduate has reportedly traveled to Tyneside for his medical after the clubs reached a full agreement. It was a tough decision for manager Unai Emery, who had hoped Ramsey would remain a key part of Villa’s future, but contract negotiations had stalled.
Villa were keen to avoid losing Ramsey for less than his market value, especially since his sale represents pure profit under the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). While the club managed to ease concerns over a potential PSR breach this summer, the pressure is expected to return next June, making Ramsey’s departure financially beneficial.
Although Villa will gain significant funds from the sale, his exit will leave gaps in the squad. The team will need reinforcements to stay competitive in both the Premier League and Europa League.
One potential replacement is Jack Rudoni, Coventry City’s standout performer for the 2024/25 season. Rudoni, 24, helped Coventry finish fifth under Frank Lampard and has attracted interest from Southampton, who reportedly value him at £15 million. Newcastle had also been linked with Rudoni, but their focus on Ramsey may reduce their pursuit. Villa could seize the opportunity to sign him at a bargain price.
Rudoni is a versatile midfielder capable of playing centrally, on the left or right, or even as a second striker. Last season, he scored nine goals and contributed 12 assists in 43 Championship appearances, also performing impressively in defensive stats such as tackles, interceptions, and recoveries. His adaptability would help cover the workload of key Villa players like John McGinn, Youri Tielemans, and Morgan Rogers, particularly during injury spells.
With his work ethic, versatility, and impressive output, Rudoni represents a strong option for Villa at £15 million, potentially strengthening the squad across multiple positions.
