The Atlanta Braves fell short of their desired postseason run in 2024, largely due to a string of injuries that plagued the team throughout the season. Despite the setbacks, Atlanta still managed to win 89 games and secure a playoff spot, showcasing the depth of their roster. Even without key players like Spencer Strider and Ronald Acuña Jr., the Braves demonstrated their resilience.
Looking ahead, the Braves have the potential to contend in 2025 if they can stay healthy. As the offseason slows down, there’s limited news to discuss, prompting FanSided’s Steven Teal to speculate on future moves. He highlighted Vladimir Guerrero Jr. as a potential target for Atlanta in next year’s free agency.
“It would be surprising if the Blue Jays didn’t at least attempt to re-sign Guerrero Jr., given he’s the face of their franchise,” Teal noted. “However, with the skyrocketing size of MLB contracts, he might test free agency, and certain teams with deep pockets could capitalize on that.”
Although Atlanta hasn’t typically pursued massive contracts, Teal believes they should at least consider Guerrero Jr., even if he would likely have to transition to a DH role, given the Braves’ long-term commitments at first and third base. Teal admitted, “This is one of the least likely free agents to land in Atlanta, but it’s an intriguing possibility.”
Guerrero Jr.’s projected market value currently stands at $427 million over 12 years, according to Spotrac. While it’s a fun idea to ponder, any serious consideration is still about 9-10 months away.
