Celtic are reportedly eyeing a surprise move for former Everton and England striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, although his wage demands could pose a stumbling block.
Calvert-Lewin became a free agent at the end of June after failing to agree on a contract extension with Everton, bringing an end to his nine-year spell at Goodison Park. His availability has attracted interest from several clubs across Europe, and Celtic are said to be among those exploring the possibility of signing him.
According to CaughtOffside, the Hoops are one of many clubs considering a move for the 28-year-old on a free transfer. However, sources indicate Calvert-Lewin is seeking a salary of around £100,000 per week — a figure that may exceed Celtic’s wage structure. Despite that, the club hasn’t ruled out making a deal happen.
A potential move would be attractive to Celtic given Calvert-Lewin’s proven Premier League experience, including a 57-goal tally for Everton — with 29 coming during two standout seasons under Carlo Ancelotti.
Celtic currently have Adam Idah and Daizen Maeda leading their attack, with youngster Johnny Kenny in reserve. Bringing in someone of Calvert-Lewin’s profile could provide valuable depth and firepower up front, especially with the club aiming to improve on last season’s domestic double after falling short of a treble in the Scottish Cup final.
At 28, Calvert-Lewin still has plenty to offer, and Brendan Rodgers may see him as the ideal addition to strengthen their squad for another competitive campaign.
