The New York Jets have opted to move on from five-time Pro Bowl linebacker C.J. Mosley, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Mosley, who battled toe and neck injuries last season, was limited to just four games. After spending five seasons with the Jets, he is now seeking to join the third team of his career.
Despite playing in only four games last year and recording 17 tackles, Mosley remains one of the league’s top linebackers when healthy. In his last fully healthy season in 2023, he tallied 152 tackles, five tackles for loss, seven pass breakups, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and half a sack.
Mosley’s impact on the field is undeniable. He is an elite run-stopper, possesses excellent pursuit angles, and can drop into coverage when needed. His ability to read plays allows him to disrupt offensive schemes, whether it’s a run, screen, or pass.
Having faced the Dolphins twice a year for the past five seasons, Mosley could be an ideal fit for Miami’s defense. At 32 years old, he continues to perform at a high level, playing with the energy of a much younger athlete when fully healthy.
Miami’s linebacker corps struggled last season, with Tyrel Dodson projected as a starter despite appearing in only eight games while dealing with injuries. Additionally, Bradley Chubb is returning from a torn ACL that sidelined him for the entire 2024 season. While Chubb has been dominant when healthy, his timeline for returning to form remains uncertain. Adding Mosley would provide the Dolphins with a proven veteran leader who can still make a significant impact.
Mosley’s versatility allows him to line up in multiple roles, and his track record over the past decade cements his status as one of the league’s best linebackers. Now the top linebacker available in free agency, he could give Miami’s defense a major boost if they choose to pursue him.
