The Indianapolis Colts hold the 14th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft after narrowly missing the playoffs for a second straight year. While they’ve been frequently linked to tight ends and safeties, some mock drafts suggest alternative directions for Indianapolis.
In a recent CBS Sports mock draft, Chris Trapasso projects the Colts selecting Ohio State senior wide receiver Emeka Egbuka in the first round. Egbuka, who played alongside several elite receivers during his collegiate career, could be a strong addition to an already talent-rich offense.
Egbuka was instrumental in Ohio State’s national championship run this winter, recording 21 catches for 268 yards and a touchdown over four College Football Playoff games. Over the full season, he amassed 1,011 receiving yards on 81 catches with 10 touchdowns.
Having played in the shadows of stars like Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and Marvin Harrison Jr., Egbuka opted to stay in college to boost his draft stock. Trapasso believes he would be a great fit in Shane Steichen’s offensive system.
In this mock draft, tight end Tyler Warren and safety Malaki Starks are both taken before Indianapolis makes its selection. Given that the Colts missed out on generational tight end Brock Bowers in last year’s draft, general manager Chris Ballard may be eager to target a top-tier prospect at another position of need.
If Egbuka is available at No. 14, he could be an option, especially since Ballard has used a first- or second-round pick on a wide receiver in four of the last six drafts. With Michael Pittman Jr., Alec Pierce, and Josh Downs already established as key pieces in Indy’s offense, however, adding another receiver could be a tough fit.
Furthermore, Egbuka would have to compete for playing time with AD Mitchell, making this selection even less likely. The Colts may be better off prioritizing positions like tight end or defensive back instead of adding another wide receiver.
