The 2024 Alabama football season has concluded, and we are now in the early part of the offseason. Attention in the football world shifts to Mobile, Alabama, where the Senior Bowl began its practices on Tuesday, providing draft-eligible players a chance to showcase their skills to scouts and decision-makers.
Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer was present on Tuesday to observe several players, including quarterback Jalen Milroe, tight end CJ Dippre, defensive lineman Tim Smith, and punter James Burnip, as they started their week of practices.
DeBoer also spoke with the media in Mobile about the future of his coaching staff, particularly regarding the potential hiring of former Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb.
“We go way back,” DeBoer remarked. “He’s a great friend and someone I deeply respect as both a coach and a person. I know he’s been navigating his own process after last season. I’m here for him, and I always will be whenever he needs me.”
Grubb and DeBoer have a long history together, having worked at Sioux Falls, Eastern Michigan, Fresno State, and Washington. Initially, Grubb was set to follow DeBoer to Alabama this past offseason, but instead took the offensive coordinator role with the Seattle Seahawks.
Under Grubb, the Seahawks’ offense ranked 14th in total yards (332 per game) and 18th in scoring (22.1 points per game). After the Seahawks missed the playoffs, Grubb was let go, sparking speculation about a possible reunion between him and DeBoer.
