As the Miami Heat continue to pursue Kevin Durant, speculation is mounting about which combination of veterans, young players, and draft picks the team might use to build an enticing trade package for the 15-time All-Star.
One of the most frequently mentioned names in potential deals is Heat guard Terry Rozier. A recent Bleacher Report article even identified trading Rozier as Miami’s top offseason priority.
“Choosing Rozier signals a win-now mentality — whether that’s the right approach is up for debate. But Miami has consistently favored quick retools over full rebuilds involving stars like Bam Adebayo or Tyler Herro. Rozier’s contract makes him a prime trade chip. Despite a disappointing season, his $26.6 million salary ($24.9 million guaranteed) expires next summer and is valuable as a centerpiece in a major trade.”
Originally acquired to provide additional scoring support for Jimmy Butler, Rozier’s stint in Miami has fallen short of expectations due to injuries and a significant drop in performance. He averaged just 10.8 points per game last season — his lowest mark since 2019 — and was ultimately removed from the team’s main rotation, putting him squarely on the trade block.
With Tyler Herro emerging as an All-Star and Miami reportedly keen on retaining Davion Mitchell, Rozier’s role in the starting backcourt appears all but gone. He’s now seen as a likely candidate to be moved in a blockbuster deal — possibly one centered around Durant or another marquee talent.
