The Boston Bruins have acquired winger from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft.
Arvidsson, 32, agreed to waive the no-movement clause in his contract—set to expire after next season—to allow the trade. Boston will assume his full \$4 million cap hit.
Originally a major free-agent signing by Edmonton last offseason, Arvidsson struggled to find his footing. He appeared in 67 games, scoring 15 goals, and was a healthy scratch multiple times during the Oilers’ run to their second straight Stanley Cup Final. Despite a reputation as a high-energy scorer throughout his 11-year NHL career, he didn’t meet expectations in Edmonton.
The Bruins, coming off a season in which they missed the playoffs and became trade deadline sellers, are looking to boost their middle-six forward group under new head coach Marco Sturm. Last season, David Pastrnak was the only Bruins forward to reach 60 points. The team currently has around \$9 million in salary cap space.
This trade marks the second recent move aimed at helping the Oilers create cap flexibility following consecutive Final appearances. Last week, the Vancouver Canucks acquired Evander Kane—who carries a \$5.125 million cap hit—in a similar middle-round pick deal.
Meanwhile, Oilers captain Connor McDavid is now eligible to sign a contract extension, though no agreement is expected in the immediate future.
