BREAKING NEWS: Ole Miss RB 5-star depart and flip commitment Akron Zips football

Just a few months after beginning his time with the Ole Miss Rebels, running back Jordon Simmons is back in the transfer portal. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound back had transferred to Ole Miss from Akron in January, but he’s now seeking a new opportunity. The news was first reported by Matt Zenitz of 247Sports.

Simmons is a proven ball carrier, having rushed for 664 yards and two touchdowns for Akron during the 2024 season, including a 73-yard scoring run against Rutgers. He averaged an impressive 6.0 yards per carry.

Before Akron, Simmons spent time at Michigan State, where he recorded 219 rushing yards as a freshman in 2020 and followed that with 278 yards in 2021. He arrived at Ole Miss with one year of eligibility remaining.

A native of Powder Springs, Georgia, Simmons leaves a running back room at Ole Miss that still features six names post-spring: Kewan Lacy, Logan Diggs, Domonique Thomas, Trey Hall, Austin Acton, and Raphael Ekechi. Four-star recruit Shekai Mills-Knight is expected to join the team in late May.
