Bryan Reynolds Exits Game Early as Wife Goes Into Labor

Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Bryan Reynolds made an early departure from Tuesday night’s game against the Cincinnati Reds after learning his wife had gone into labor.
The 30-year-old was removed from the game during the third inning and quickly left PNC Park to be by his wife’s side as she prepared to welcome their second child. Initially described by the team as a “personal matter,” the situation was later clarified as a family emergency related to the birth.
Pirates manager Derek Shelton spoke about the moment following the game.
“As soon as Bryan got the call, we told him to go,” Shelton said. “There are times when baseball steps aside, and this was absolutely one of them. We’re thrilled for him and send our best to his family.”
Before leaving, Reynolds went 1-for-1 with a double, continuing his consistent performance that has been crucial to the Pirates’ offense this season. Since his 2019 debut, Reynolds has been a reliable presence in Pittsburgh’s lineup.
His teammates offered their full support after the game, which Pittsburgh won 5-3.
“Bryan’s family to us,” said shortstop Oneil Cruz. “We’re pumped for him and we’ve got his back until he returns.”
It remains uncertain how long Reynolds will be away, though Major League Baseball’s paternity leave policy allows up to three days. The Pirates have not yet made any roster adjustments, though one may be announced depending on Reynolds’ availability.
